Well damn, it’s been a while since the last Beauty Brief hasn’t it? Realistically, I don’t switch makeup up lots or more often than not forget to snap/share what’s on my face as I’m a self-confessed skincare girl, but with my skin having more better days than not and also going outside for work more, my face sees more foundation than it has in the last few years (we’re still a way off from 6 days a week of makeup, way way off).

Festive makeup, however, is the best makeup; traditional red lips, golden shimmer and a few more attempts at trying to do winged liner just makes makeup so much more fun, and I feel I’ve nailed my products (even though there is a lot in comparison to my first Beauty Brief) to work with my skin whatever the situation.

I’ve been neglecting some of my Korean products but mixing together Holika Holika Aqua Petite Jell BB Cream with Estee Lauder Double Wear in Desert Beige/Dawn has been a winter god-send; despite being a slightly matte finish, Aqua Petite is water based which adds a level of hydration much needed in colder months, and blends seamlessly into the skin which when mixed with Double Wear adds more coverage and lasts a lot longer without looking like ‘oh this is slipping off my face at 6pm’, although something that does help this and adds a lush natural glow is Becca Backlighting Primer.

A new brand I’ve tried and fallen for is Zoeva, and picked up both the Contour and Concealer Palettes on a whim – the brand itself is cruelty free so I felt okay going in for a first try, and I’m honestly obsessed with the quality and colours in both; I use the peachy shades under my eyes for long days to hide tiredness, the white to brighten, yellow to hide redness or sallowness, and the ‘skin’ colour for blemishes, and they give such manageable high coverage I can’t do make makeup with anything else. Same goes for the contour, the lighter contour shade is a great match for my skin-tone and adds much needed chisel, while the yellow power sets my under eyes all day – the highlighter is actually very golden once you apply although I don’t use it often, and if I’m feeling very shapeless, I like to add the darker contour at the tops of my cheekbones for even more depth – just sculpt me out like I’m ice-cream! Another cheek addition is my Laura Geller Blush which made an apperance around this time last eyar also, it’s a great mauve/dark dusty pink shade that adds warmth to the skin and looks natural enough that you could rock it in the day for a muted feel or at night for subtle glow in the cheeks.

There’s a few old faves too that I won’t go into as much detail about, but yes I’m still loving Fairydrops Mascara for longevity and natural volume, Anastasia Brow Wiz in Medium Brown for big babein’ brows, and Laura Mercier Caviar Sticks in Amethyst and Copper which are an easy blending life saver and add a lovely shimmer to eyes in winter, Amethsyt accenting the green in my eyes and adding shadow whilst Copper plays up that festive gold.

There’s a few new addition to eyes too though, the first being my ‘every look this works’ shadow base of Bobbi Brown Shadow Stick in Taupe* – I’m obsessed, it’s your eyes but better and goes with any look, I can’t leave the house without this blended on my lids. Urban Decay Perversion Mascara* has creeped back in which I wear on big eye/no glasses days as it makes my lashes super big and long thanks to its massive brush, and is quite long lasting but not a patch on Fairydrops 😉 As I mentioned also I’ve been attempting winged liner, and after my Stila liner went a bit flat I switched to a mini Kat Von D Tattoo Liner* and it’s SO GOOD – I get high-pigmented precision that lasts well and applies great over eyeshadow too, and I think it may potentially turn me back to cat eyes…

I’d mention lipsticks, but I’m honestly switching between a good 5 or more because I have too many and need to determine which ones are staying, but my non-negociables include MAC Russian Red, Charlotte Tilbury Birkin Brown, Bobbi Brown Art Stick in Hot Orange*, Smashbox Be Legendary in Wrap Party* and NYX Liquid Suede in Sandstorm – winners for any occassion, especially your Christmas party.

Hopefully the next Beauty Brief won’t take as long to come around, but then again, I could still be tackling my liner skills well into 2017, so let’s keep our fingers crossed 😉
