Well well, what do we have here? It’s been a long time since I did a beauty brief (okay, just over a month but it’s still a big deal) and now that Autumn is in full swing, I’ve been in full experimentation and berry appreciation mode and man it feels good.
Dark lips are my thing, bold lips are my thing, looks where lipstick is the main thing are my thing, so I’ve been embracing the darker and more ‘wowza’ shades as of late and if you couldn’t already tell I’m loving it. My current go-to is a mix of a more satin finish on the base with a hint of sculpting, paired with some reddy-pinky-purpley eyes, stronger brows and of course, the lip that does all the talking.
There’s the usual mix of products; Green People Age Defy+ DD Cream to even out any discolouration from healing spots, a mix of Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk in 5 with NARS Sheer Glow in Deauville to keep the base looking ***flawless, my highlighting and concealing duo of choice from Collection Concealer in Fair and NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in Vanilla, contour from Sleek Face Form Palette in Fair*, Anastasia Brow Wiz in Soft Brown* and Eyeko Brow Gel* for the brows, and my forever mascara of choice Maybelline Lash Sensational, but by switching up a few key elements it makes all those old faithfuls looks brand new.
First off, I’ve rediscovered Benefit Coralista which usually happens this time of year – it’s still a bit summery but the darker coral tones gives you that natural flush when you need to warm up a pale(r) complexion, and it works surprisingly well with the purple flecks present in Laura Mercier’s Caviar Stick in Amethyst (again, an old faithful, but more thickly applied and blended out for smokey perfection). The biggest beauty brief update? The Sephora Lipstick in Rouge R01, which oh man is the perfect mix of red, berry and brown in a creamy formula. I picked this up over the Cream Lip Stains back in August when I visited Paris but it was so worth it – pop this over any variant of red, purple or brown liner, this just transforms the look you want to rock. It’s one of those shades that it will look different on each wearer but that just makes it so good for this time of year – blotted down for a more daytime deep stain or layered up for a more intense evening 90’s gothic grunge vibe, it’s the shade missing from your collection.
A not so brief Beauty Brief, but hey, it’s Autumn and all the new colours and lipstick shades come out in force so it’s not hard to be excited amiright? You’ll also be seeing me in this navy jumper/collar combo a lot more from now on because LAYERING EXCITES ME – oh Autumn you are my fave.
What beauty switched have you made recently? Have you got a staple autumn lipstick? How are you embracing the autumn?
Lots of Love,
