It’s been a while since I showed my face on the blog, however you’ll have to forgive me as YouTube has required it’s presence for the past few weeks (cheeky self-promo ey?). Filming videos has pushed me back in the routine of actually wearing make-up on a regular basis and as a self-confessed skincare junkie – favouring days of slapping moisturiser and serum on my face instead of lots of powder and foundation – I do love the art and routine of making my base look radiant, filling in my brows and slicking on a bold lip to brighten up my mood for any given occasion (mainly to raid Homesense for candles).

So I’ve decided to combine my love of ‘current favourites’ and ‘go-to products’ into a new series: The Beauty Brief, basically a fancier way of saying My Current Makeup Routine (but shhhh no one has to know) but an easy way to give you a low-down of what I love popping on my face without over-running my Monthly Favourites you see? Edition 1, the bold lip, and there’s some pretty bold choices…

On the base, things have been switched up with the Nourish Illuminating Face Shimmer* which adds a gorgeous golden glow and evens out the skin-tone – something I really need right now, plus I’ve been applying Benefit Watts Up! under my foundation to really oomph that dewy finish which screams ‘I just caught the sun’. Obviously a key part to any base is primer and I’m still loving Pixi by Petra Flawless and Poreless Primer*, it’s lasted so long and keeps my face on for hours too – two big thumbs up from me as always.
Speaking of base, it’s of course all about NARS Sheer Glow and Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk in terms of foundation, sometimes even mixing the two for a higher coverage yet dewy finish to my complexion. Definitely two of my all time favourite foundations, however I’ve got my eye on either the Laura Mercier Oil Free Tinted Moisturiser or Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue for a sheer coverage yet healthy Summer glow – I sense a #feelingspendy moment coming, and again, NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer is still my go-to blemish disguising under-eye brightening weapon of choice, can’t live without it!

A darker base means a more defined contour so I’ve been switching back to the Sleek Face Form Palette in Light* which has a great matte brown Contour Powder to sculpt those cheekbones, plus the Highlighter (which has a pinky undertone similar to NARS Copacabana) really adds a beautiful luminosity to the tops of your cheekbones.
I’ve gone on enough times now about Anastasia Brow Wiz* but it’s been a real revolution to my brows – Soft Brown is the perfect ash-toned shade to fill in the gaps and make my arches look beautifully defined whilst staying natural. Genius.

I’m not about being fussy with my eyes, so I’ve been reaching for my Laura Mercier Caviar Sticks loads, especially Rosegold and Amethyst which makes the green in my eyes pop without loading on too much colour – super easy to colour on and blend out. Maybelline Lash Sensational is again my top mascara of choice, you can’t beat Maybelline for volumised lashes IMO and I’ll always repurchase from them, they just make mine look amazing and doll-like for only £7!

Finally the big thing coming into warmer weather has been the bold lip, and not a make-up day goes by without me slicking on either Morange, Russian Red, Barry M 145 or Lipstick Queen in Sigh. Sigh is a little more sheer however the purple-blue metallic undertones really add a deep berry shade to your lips which is brilliant to apply san mirror (win) however the bold ‘look at me’ offerings from MAC and Barry M really compliment my neutral eye and get me feeling all sunshine lollipops, ready to hit the beach in my shorts – if only a lipstick could achieve such things. What can be achieved however is long-lasting matte perfection, especially thanks to Lipcote* which I finally got my hands on – the application seems a bit strange at first but honestly, my lipstick has never looked or lasted better than when using this – if you’re a matte girl through and through, you need this in your life, especially if you eat a lot of messy food like I do.

I totally forgot this is also the first time my new short’do has been on the blog – what do we think? Hooray for chopping off all the bleached ends! I feel very Parisian nowadays with a short bob, and combined with a bold lip I’m only a hop-skip-jump away from catching the Eurostar to Paris to live my dream, but I digress. Beauty Brief #1, done. Next up, skincare….

What is your current makeup routine? Have you tried out any of these products? Do we like the name Beauty Brief?

Lots of Love,
Lauren x
