I have considered myself quite lucky with my lashes, but there's always a time and place for big voluminous fluttery delights that make you look a) awake b) like a princess and c) as fabulous as you naturally are. Because that's why mascaras exist right?
Falsies have always been a pain for me to apply, and whilst I'm currently fighting the fight to get along with them, I'm a mascara lover at heart with high expectations - a brush that will separate, lengthen and volumise, is black enough to enhance their existence, won't smudge, clump or flake, and is reasonably priced. Not too much to ask for I don't think, and I've tried my fair few of formulas over the years - primarily drugstore because, drugstore prices - some which have been one hit wonders and others that I've repurchased again and again, so if you're looking for a new mascara that will give you those big lashes you've always dreamt of, I have a few suggestions...
I've always been drugstore in my mascaras but I have ventured out slightly over the last few years, and one I was quickly surprised and delighted with was Bare Minerals 10-in-1 Lash Domination; it's in between drugstore and high end so it's a nice middle ground to try something new, and it really does provide you with awesome blackest of black lashes with noticeable length and fatter volume - I thank the brush on this one, which is curved and allows you to roll the brush right under the root of the lash and wiggle upwards to disperse the product evenly and dramatically. One niggle, I have found it does smudge under my eyes (I don't wear mascara on my bottom lashes, so it's evident that it's transferred) so I have put it at the back of the pile for now, but if you don't apply so much at the root then it's a winning formula.
Widely raved about - and rightly so - is Fairydrops Scandal Queen Waterproof Mascara (again, thanks Anna) which is a bit more high end in terms of price but none the less a magical mascara to try at least once. Up until this year I never used waterproof mascara because I always believed it was a nightmare to remove, I never went swimming and didn't take notice in it holding a curl or not, but the formula of Scandal Queen is very light, buildable and really stays put until you attack it with makeup remover (always Clarins, never fails). I will note that it is a lot more natural in finish, so perfect for everyday enhancement but of course you can apply a few coats however I don't like to go over two so it is a much more subtle statement alongside a darker lipstick without feeling 'done'. It's a defined black, has a fabulous wand that allows you to separate the lashes as much as you want and because it is an Asian brand, it will stay put in all types of weather - definitely summer holiday material!
Finally, my all time favourite which shouldn't need an introduction - Maybelline Lash Sensational Waterproof Mascara and I used to buy the regular version but converted to waterproof as a comparison to Fairydrops, and you know what? It's bloody brilliant. The formula I cannot fault, it is the blackest of black, the wand is curved which allows you to grab all length of lashes, the outer curve perfect for volume and to get right in the root of the lash, whilst the inner curve is great for extra length overall and separation. Being waterproof, it holds a curl amazingly well all day, and even my mum noticed how dramatically volumised my lashes were after wearing Fairydrops for so long; and can we discuss price? At under £8 you are getting a fantastic formula (not non and waterproof) and it is fab for days you want to feel all dolled up even if you're just wearing BB cream because those lashes will certainly do the talking - perfection in a pink tube.
Now I've talked myself into wearing mascara on a pyjama day - because why not feel fabulous in your twosie - I want to hear what you think; are you a volumised/long length mascara kind of gal? What do you look for in a mascara? Have you tried any of these products?
Lots of Love,
